One of the outcomes of the Interreg III B project “eHealth for regions” has been the creation of a network for cooperation on future development on eHealth. The main objectives for the network are to promote collaboration between the partner regions in developing eHealth solutions and to find financing for such projects. The aim of this document is to define the information base required for the creation of new projects.
It is important that new projects focus on problems that that are relevant to future challenges in health care. It is also important to formulate the projects so that they support national eHealth strategies and do not run contrary to national strategic projects, but rather try to benefit from the results of such projects. A new project should be innovative and not duplicate results from ongoing project. Hence, it is important to monitor existing projects in the field. This information can be used both to demonstrate the level of innovation in a proposed project, but also to formulate projects that benefit from the results of other projects or to continue or complete a subject, or to support a development by, for example, offering test bed environments.
The European Union takes a lot of the initiative by, for example, writing policy papers for a common European eHealth area. The most important issue is financing, and several European programmes offer financing for eHealth seen from different perspectives. However, the web pages published by the EU Commission contain a huge amount of information and it is therefore essential to refine this information and extract what is most relevant for eHealth projects.
